The Accident - One year later

Hello all,

Well, one year later, I am still here, and all healed up for the most part.

Still have things on the face that are not quite right. My nose still feels numb, and my sense of smell is not right yet. My left eye socket is still numb to the touch even though it itches a lot. My neck and head (where they come together) are still not right; it hurts every day. Some days are worse than others. It feels like a bucket of cement is sitting on my head, same feeling when I step into a shower, heavy weight on my head, makes my neck hurt. My mouth (upper) teeth are still numb, and my sense of taste is still not there. I am surprised by how much the sense of taste makes us feel full and happy after a meal. I eat and can't taste most of what I eat. My mouth feels like I am trying to chew something like wood instead of food. I chew my cheeks all the time, have to eat very slowly, and be mindful of my cheeks. I NEVER chewed my cheeks like I do now. The doctor who did the face re-do of broken areas said he had to re-break by mouth to put me back together again.  Some of my upper teeth have been pushed in toward the inside of my mouth, where they never were before. He gave me an edge-to-edge bite at the front of my mouth that I have never had in my life. So, it is like eating with someone else's mouth; you can't feel it. The teeth are still numb on the upper, and I feel that they may be dead. Which means somewhere in the future, I may have to have some teeth crowned to save them.

My left leg, where the huge tear in the leg was, is still numb to the touch, where two huge holes were punched over the knee. My left leg still has a stretch of flesh that is numb from the knee almost to the hip.

But thank God I am alive and can still walk up and down our steep hill of a yard. I can do all of what I did before the accident.  Thank you, Jesus,

Whispering Spot - the cat who adopted us 🐈‍⬛

Hello all,

Today, I add a new picture of the cat who adopted us as his new family forever home. For 2 years, he has been around our home, we would put food out morning and evening, and give him fresh water each day. He gets canned and dry food and treats. Two years ago, we even tried to scare him off when he first showed up, caught him in a trap, released him, and tried to scare him off, but this one would not scare. He has NEVER again entered a trap set for the varmints. He seems to know NOT to enter the trap. That is a great thing for him.

Whispering Spot

It took him 3 years (this summer is his 3rd) to accept us. You could not touch him, could not get close to him. Will not come when you call him. He slept under the porch for a while, or next door, we think, under the neighbor's home. No one was living there at the time.

Starting last fall, he was letting us get a little closer and felt really bad that he had no place to get out of the cold; we had a bad winter this last winter. So early on, we got out the large dog kennel and put an army blanket in it with one of the heating pads that is for animals under the top couple of layers of the folded blanket. To our amazement, he took to it right away and stayed day and night in that during the winter. The kennel sits on the back porch next to the back door.

This summer, he has walked up to us, timid at first, and wants pets, rubs, and face scratches. Vince and I both have loved on him this summer. Still, I do not trust that I can pick him up yet, though.

Next, we will try working up a cat "litter box" he will use and stop using my flower bed downstairs by the front porch.

He is now leaving me fresh meat at the doorstep (watch your step), fairy diddles, and mice this summer. They are not eaten, they are whole, only dead. I love that he is killing the varmints around here.

Our next big step, one day, will be a veterinarian visit.
He or she is my charmer now, and I love him or her. 💕

Raccoon day 🦝

Hello all,

Well, today is raccoon day. Just another mess to get rid of. It is so hot and humid this summer.
Perhaps that is why we are bothered with so many varmints this year.

Raccoon day

My chickens are doing great, I can hear Mr. Clouds each morning doing his thing, and now my parrot (Frosty) sounds like a rooster. Funny. 😇

My doves are doing great, the babies (2) are growing like a weed. I will be looking for new homes for them before long.

It has rained so much this spring into summer that all the trees around us are super full of leaves and growth this year. Fall color should be great this year.

Possum day ☠️

Hello all,

Well, this happened on the 7th of July. I am late getting it put up. Yep, another possum in our yard, also pooping on the side steps going to the front yard. Another mess to clean up. ☹️

What is this? 🪳

Hello everyone,

What is this bug?

It was on the side of the chicken coop this morning. Looks weird, so I wanted to take a pic and post here.

Hot, humid day. Suppose it will get to 98 again today. I will be glad when this heat is over.

If anyone knows, post and let me know.

What am I?

Believe it or Not 🦝

Hello to all,

Well, here we go again, another raccoon, the third day in a row. Anyway, it is taken care of,

Raccoon on Wednesday

Another hot, sticky day here in W.V. I can't wait until the weather changes for a cooler day. The poor old cat outside finds a spot in the foliage on the ground where it is somewhat cool to spend most of its day.
He is always present for food and enjoys his cool water each day.

The chickens are doing just fine, and they also find cool spots to stay out of the sun for most of the day. Still getting eggs each day.

🦝 Raccoons 🦝- 😇

Hello all,

Well, Yesterday and Today we had raccoons come around, tearing things up and getting into the cat (we don't own) area, and messing things up. So, needless to say, they were 👻dispatched 👻to the happy hunting grounds. These things are driving my cat whom we don't own, crazy. He does not like having them come around and bother "his" space.

Oh, by the way, the " 🐈‍⬛" we don't own has now decided to "own" us. He loves pets and touching, and loves getting scratches. It only took him 2 summers and winters to trust people just a little. He has one ear cropped, I think it has been spayed or neutered, then turned loose, what if you want a cat or not. Does not matter, the spay and neuter clinics around here, we were told, spay and neuter them and then turn them loose with ONE EAR CUT OFF on the tip. This, in my thinking, is cruel. If you don't want your cat, do the responsible thing and take it to the VET and have it put to sleep. Do not let them run around loose to be hit by a car or eaten by another animal around here in the woods.

Some find a friend, and he or she gets food & water every day and a warm place to sleep out of the weather. But still, not so friendly that we can take him or her to the vet and have the shots & care given to keep them healthy. So, he still is on his own, really. what if he has a toothache? Or what if he has a kidney issue, suffers in pain, it will be because someone thought it was wise to let them go on their own, with no care for the rest of their lives!

The last 5 days we have had no rain, heat index warnings, and temps into the high 90s. It is very bad, but cooler days are on the way with rain by Friday and Saturday, and it can't get here soon enough for me. This last winter, with the two days of -10 and -12, two nights in a row, was the first for us here in W.V. Now this spring and summer are horribly hot and humid all the time.

I did get two new (pink 🌸& white🌼) bell plants, nice big ones in 3-gallon pots. I also ordered a 4-inch one in apricot color that turns more 💮orange as the flower ages, from another store.

When they get some blooms, I will post them here.

Meet Mr. Clouds -🐓 My Rooster

Hello to all,

On Tuesday, we took a small trip and got a rooster for my three hens. More chickens will be added after we get some chicks to raise this spring.

Mr. Clouds as I like to call him, is mostly white, with some black to dark gray color on the tail and on his neck. He is turning out to be very tame; you can pick him up just like picking up a puppy. He only has one eye. There is no wetness or leakage from the eye area. Does not seem to bother him. Will keep an eye on him.
We do not know what happened to it, and neither does the person we got him from. Seems he just showed up in their yard, so they cared for him.

From the first day, he and the hens stay together, and they retreat to the roost inside the coop for the night. I love him.

Tuff, the twins, and Mr. Clouds

I love how they all come for their treats about noon each day.
